The union representing nearly 19,000 Canadian auto workers opened contract talks with Stellantis Tuesday, amid ongoing tensions between Canada and the U.S. Last week, U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to hike tariffs on all vehicles, auto parts and steel from Canada. Unifor National President Lana Payne says that Trump knows, “a 50 per cert tariff on cars and parts will shut down the entire North American auto industry, likely within a week or ten days.”
