At a Friday press conference, Canada-U.S. Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc said that the feds would not rush into a trade deal at any cost after U.S. trade representative Jamieson Greer said President Donald Trump was comfortable with the current situation. LeBlanc said U.S. tariffs were causing hardship for Canadian workers and businesses and that any agreement must protect Canada’s sovereignty and economic interests. “We’re not waiting by the phone,” LeBlanc said, adding that Canada remained ready to negotiate while strengthening its economy and diversifying trade.
