Queen’s University students stranded in Doha after airspace closure
A group of Queen’s University students was stranded in Doha, Qatar, after their flight to Toronto was forced to turn back when regional airspace closed. Student Claire Haffner described "an initial panic" on board when passengers were told of the closure. After hours of uncertainty at the airport, the group was sent to a nearby hotel as tensions escalated in the region, including a ballistic missile attack that injured four people at Dubai’s airport.

Police accused of ‘stonewalling’ family of man who died after making 911 call
On the morning of Aug. 30, 2024, Rick Buerger was awoken by the daughter of his brother, Ralph Buerger, in Fonthill, Ont., who said Ralph died overnight at just 59 years old. The family later learned Ralph had contacted 911 at 2:56 a.m., apparently to ask for help, but he’d been unable to speak. The call lasted 35 seconds. The family wants to know why nobody came to check on him, but they say the police are stalling the search. Global's Sean O'Shea has the story.
