Hegseth says officials mulling decision to release full video of controversial boat strike
U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said on Saturday that he “would have made the same call” in ordering a controversial follow-up strike on a suspected drug boat in the Caribbean that killed survivors. Hegseth, who made the comments while speaking to a defence industry forum, reiterated his claim that he was not present for the duration of the military operation. The Sept. 2 attack by the U.S. military struck a vessel in the Caribbean, killing 11 suspected drug traffickers. The initial strike left survivors, who were killed in a subsequent strike, prompting critics to ask whether the operation violated laws and whether Hegseth was responsible for it.
