Air Canada is phasing out more flights to American destinations, including cancelling all direct flights to South Carolina.
Canadians made a total of 1.9 million return trips from the U.S. in September, a year-over-year increase of 6.8 per cent, according to data from Statistics Canada. Air travel trips rose 11.6 per cent compared to the same month last year, but remained 18.7 per cent below 2024 levels.
Canadian travel to the U.S. has plunged compared to 2024 levels after repeated threats of annexation by U.S. President Donald Trump as well as multiple rounds of tariffs imposed amid his trade war.
In response to weaker demand, Air Canada announced it would be cancelling service on five routes beginning in 2027.
Those cancellations include service between Montreal and Seattle, Vancouver and Nashville, Vancouver and Raleigh-Durham, Toronto’s Billy Bishop Airport and Boston, and Toronto Pearson and Charleston.
Service between Toronto Pearson and Charleston is the only direct flight Air Canada offers between Canada and South Carolina.

South Carolina is a popular destination for Canadian snowbirds but has been hit particularly hard by changing attitudes surrounding U.S. travel.
According to a report from the University of Toronto’s School of Cities, trips by Canadians to Myrtle Beach, S.C., decreased by more than 65 per cent between 2024/25 and 2025/26, the steepest decline of any U.S. city.
In May, Air Canada announced it would be suspending some of its seasonal flights earlier than normal due to the soaring price of jet fuel. One of those flights was service between Toronto and Charleston which typically runs between May and September.
Air Canada announced this week that service would be cancelled indefinitely.
Despite the cancellations, Air Canada said it would be offering new service between Toronto and Louisville, Montreal and Indianapolis, and Edmonton and Newark in summer 2027.
In July, the airline also announced it would be cancelling winter service between Montreal and Detroit, Montreal and Minneapolis, and Toronto and Indianapolis.
At the time, an Air Canada spokesperson said the changes were made to “ensure capacity is aligned with customer demand and seasonal travel patterns.”
In the spring, WestJet announced it was cancelling 10 summer routes to the U.S., citing a notable decline in demand.
Air Transat also announced in April it would cut flights from its schedules, citing higher fuel prices as a result of the Iran war.
Too broke to go anywhere with that Canadian peso anyways. Less losers in USA this winter should make it even better enjoying the warmth, great food and solid patriotic Americans.
I love my low to 0 taxes in FLA
Why support a terrorist nation like the USA? There’s a whole world to visit….191 other countries in total. Avoid trumpland and the maniacs who inhabit it and travel to civilized countries.
Raleigh is in North Carolina and your article mentions just South Carolina
Kill youself, American terrorists
We don’t need Canadians in the USA. Stay in your own country and enjoy your 4 months of Winter. Elbows Up
That’s because Canadians are poor. This always happens under Liberal governments. 🤣🤣🤣
Canadians are so weird..
deal with your dirty mexican and filthy n!gger problems and maybe just maybe we would want you in our country.
Who needs Freeloaders!
Im sure a 70 cent dollar has nothing to do with it.
I don’t care. I go to Buffalo for all my flights and save big money not flying out of Canada.
@Anonymous 4.03. Truth hurts it seems eh? Lol
Most Elbows Up Canadians have sour grapes as they cant afford to fly to the USA.
Its funny how the Canadian media presents this as Elbow Up when the realities is that most Canadians are too broke to afford groceries let alone a foreign vacation.
So many stupid Republicans here trolling.
Have you read your own polls???
Trump at 32%.
Maybe go back to trolling Alabama goofs. Canadians don’t vote there.
Austin: phuck off bullshitter.
How stupid can you be as this isn’t even about our PM.
Read much azzhole?
School shootings every day.
No thanks.
Stop worrying about other places maybe.
Carney is the biggest hypocrite in the world. His family lives in the USA and he has 3 passports.
As a Prime Crime Minister, I love to travel to Europe on taxpayers dime!!
You Canadian hose teasers lol
Gotta wonder if indeed those elbows up keyboard warriors with their online bravado will be staying in Canada over the winter. My guess is they will still travel to warmer places in the US and still go online to say that Canadians aren’t travelling to the US. Which would be typical hypocrisy by Liberals.
I have numerous friends and neighbours who drive down to the US weekly or monthly to do their shopping. So Canadians are travelling to the US just not on expensive Air Canada flights.
Elbows Up Canadians can’t afford to go the USA as most live hand to mouth.
Maybe people aren’t traveling because the tariffs are making prices higher and most Canadians can’t afford to fly anywhere anymore. I know lots of Canadians that drive to the states weekly. The elbows up crowd just choose to believe that Canada is winning this trade war but the facts are if all the American companies left Canada there would be mass unemployment. I shop by price not where anything is made or produced.
I was just in Las Vegas and it was busy and so was the flight from Calgary. I don’t mind not that Elbows Up Canadians are not travelling there as I don’t like them anyways.
Bye-bye america…
The fact remains that fewer Canadians are going to the USA as per the stats. And opinion polls indicate it’s because of Trump and tariffs.
@KKK.
I drive to the USA first ( Spokane) and fly from there, pay 40% less. Elbows Up!
Check with your airlines Butch! May be cancelled! Trump may pick you up in his private Saudi jet! Ha! Dickie Licker!
Wow in September I went to Los Angeles and the plane was full of passengers no empty seats so I feel that they should do statistics of what cities in the USA are canadians traveling to. That would be interesting.
I already have my USA trips books for this winter coming up. San Diego , Phoenix, and Miami. I refuse to go “Elbows Up”.
Most people THINK that we are flying less often to the USA because of the tariffs when the WHOLE TRUTH IS – most of us can no longer afford the high cost of flying, hotel rooms in both Canada and the USA, increased food costs in restaurants etc.etc. Losing 42.3% of our wages to all three levels of government taxation in this country has become a huge problem in this country. “Total Tax Burden: When combining federal income tax, provincial income taxes, payroll taxes (CPP and EI), sales taxes, and property taxes, the average Canadian family pays around 42.3% of their total cash income across all levels of government, though personal income tax alone makes up only a portion of that bill.” BANKRUPTCIES are coming big time next year. My prediction.
