Gates Guarin
Digital Journalist
Gates Guarin is a digital journalist at Global Edmonton.
A born and raised Calgarian, he didn’t start his career in broadcasting.
After graduating from the University of Calgary with an economics degree in 2014 and working in the corporate utilities sector for eight years, Gates made the decision to pursue his passion for storytelling and enrolled in SAIT’s Radio, Television and Broadcast News program in 2020. Gates graduated with honours in 2022.
Gates began his journalism career at CHAT News in Medicine Hat. Starting as an intern, he worked his way up to senior reporter and backup news anchor and producer, covering some of the largest stories of 2022 in Medicine Hat, including extreme summer weather, by-elections and historical building fires.
He then moved northeast to join the team at Global News in Saskatoon in January 2023, before moving to Edmonton three years later.
When Gates is not busy reporting, he likes to spend his time with board games and video games, travelling and watching films and sports.
