While most grocery stores, pharmacies and restaurants remain open in Toronto, a multitude of events and popular attractions have been cancelled or closed due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Here is a list of cancellations and closures:
- The big four professional sports leagues — NBA, NHL, MLS, MLB — announced they are suspending their leagues due to the outbreak.
- The Ontario Hockey League cancelled its 2020 OHL Cup
- The CN Tower said they will close after end of day Friday and will not reopen until April 14.
- Canadian Screen Week announced the cancellation of its activities, including the broadcast gala set for March 29 in Toronto.
- All publicly funded schools in Ontario will be closed for two weeks after March Break, March 14 to April 5.
- Daycares at TDSB schools to close March 14 to April 5.
- The Home Show announced on Thursday it is cancelling its event that was meant to begin March 13 at the Enercare Centre
- Canada Blooms announced Thursday its event was cancelled, which was also at the Enercare Centre.
- The popular One of a Kind — The Spring show in Toronto was postponed from the end of March to June 18-21.
- Toronto’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade that was set to take place March 15 has been called.
- The Collision Tech Conference which was meant to take place in Toronto moved the entire event to online-only.
- York University announced it will move all classes online on March 16.
- University of Toronto cancelled its classes but said they will find other means to teach courses, including moving online.
- Ryerson University said it will be shifting all in-person classes to virtual and other alternative forms of delivery.
- The Ontario superior court has suspended juries for upcoming trials
- Shopify’s Unite Conference in Toronto was cancelled.
- The Toronto Symphony Orchestra said it has cancelled all remaining concerts in March.
- Toronto Comicon was cancelled.
- The Hockey Hall of Fame will be closed through to April 6.
- The Archdiocese of Toronto said public Mass is cancelled March 14 and 15. Churches will remain open for private prayer.
- The AGO is closing its door for three weeks starting March 13.
- All licensed childcare centres will close for the next three weeks starting March 16.
- Ontario Science Centre closed until April 6
- Ontario Place Cinesphere closed with no reopening date provided.
- The Royal Ontario Museum closed until at least April 5
- Metro Toronto Convention Centre
- Royal Botanical Gardens closed until at least April 6
- Recreation and community centres and arenas closed until at least April 5
- Ski Hills are closed until at least April 5
- Toronto city council and committee meetings are suspended
- Hot Docs Film Festival announced it will postpone its event which was set to take place April 30 to May 10.
- Aga Khan Museum will be closed until April 7
- The Toronto Zoo will be closed until April 5
- Great Wolf Lodge in Niagara Falls is closed until April 2
- All Apple Stores are closed until March 27
- All Mirvish theatres are closed for the first time in history until April 2.
- All Anglican churches
- Blue Mountain is closed until further notice.
- All Urban Outfitters are closed until further notice.
- The YMCA of Greater Toronto has temporarily closed all health and fitness centres until April 5, effective as of 11:59 p.m. ET March 14.
- Goodlife Fitness announced a Canada-wide closure of all its locations.
- LA Fitness locations are closed until at least April 1.
- Lush retail stores are closed from March 16 to 29.
- Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema is closed as of March 15, with the hope of reopening on April 10.
- Cadillac Fairview is reducing operating hours at malls across Canada.
- Ontario Parks buildings are closed and events cancelled.
- Mandarin announced the closure of its buffet.
- Lululemon closed all stores across North America and Europe.
- The Toronto Marathon was cancelled.
- Horseshoe Resort is closed until further notice.
- Orange Theory is closing all locations from March 17 until at least March 30.
- All Movati Athletic locations are closed.
- Toronto Public Library branches are closed. They are scheduled to reopen April 6.
- Ripley’s Aquarium will close at 6 p.m. March 16 until further notice.
- Restaurants, bars, clubs, theatres, concert venues were asked to close or change to a takeout or delivery service. Effective March 17, at 12:01 a.m. or orders may be issued to individual establishments under Section 22 of the Health Protection and Promotion Act.
- All daycares, churches and other faith settings were also told to close by Ontario — to avoid any group gatherings of 50 people or more.
- Cineplex movie theatres are closed nationwide until at least April 2.
- Ikea Canada stores are closed nationwide starting March 18 until further notice. However Ikea will remain open online and offer home delivery services.
- The Toronto Botanical Gardens building is closed until April 6. The garden remains open.
