Brian McKechnie spent ten years producing and directing a variety of films and videos for online distribution before making the switch to mainstream media by way of Citytv in 2006. During his five years at City he managed the CityNews website, assisted with the technical setup of the Toronto Citytv building at Yonge-Dundas Square and worked with bridging the gap between broadcast and online journalists.

He left City in 2011 to launch the entertainment-related website Criticize This! He ran the daily operation of the site while reviewing films, interviewing filmmakers and covering major film and television events. His reviews for Criticize This! also ran in the Toronto weekly t.o.night and he made regular on-air appearances on CTV News Channel and CTV Kitchener, where he reviewed and discussed movies on a weekly basis. While running Criticize This!, Brian was a member of the Toronto Film Critics Association and served on the FIPRESCI jury at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival.

Brian joined Globalnews.ca in Jan. 2013 and currently oversees all Ontario-focused online content.

When not at work, Brian enjoys renovating his house and spending time with his wife and two boys.
