“We make it a fun day to just give back to the community as a whole and show them that we’re not just about strikes, we’re not just about protests, but trying to make this a better place and a better community, ” said Tom Howe from the Saskatoon and District Labour Council.
Donations for the event came from local unions, businesses and volunteers.
The United Food and Commercial Workers also organized entertainment for the day along with children’s activities.
Labour Day was first celebrated in 1872.
The efforts of the labour movement helped usher in health and safety laws, shorter work weeks and minimum labour standards.
