Conservative candidate Luc Berthold is the projected winner in the riding of Mégantic-Érable.
Mégantic–L’Érable consists of the regional county municipalities of Le Granit, L’Érable and Les Appalaches. This southern Quebec riding includes Thetford Mines and Lac-Mégantic.
Elevated peaks including Mount Gosford and Mount Megantic can be found in this mostly rural riding.
In 2013, a deadly train disaster took place at Lac Megantic when a runway train loaded with bitumen derailed. It caused explosions that killed 47 people.
Incumbent Conservative MP Luc Berthold was able to recapture this seat in the 2019 election, collecting 49.2 per cent of the vote. BQ candidate Priscilla Corbeil came in second place with 12,249 votes.
This is one of 10 seats that the Conservatives managed to secure in Quebec in 2019, falling from 12 in 2015. It has been a Conservative stronghold since 2006.
