Canada election results: Nipissing–Timiskaming

Global News is projecting Liberal incumbent Anthony Rota getting re-elected in Nipissing–Timiskaming.

The electoral riding of Nipissing–Timiskaming includes part of the Territorial District of Nipissing, the municipalities of Callander and Powassan, Nipissing Township and part of the Territorial District of Timiskaming. It also borders the province of Quebec.

Rota held the seat from 2004 until 2011, when he was narrowly defeated by Conservative Jay Aspin.

However, Rota rebounded in the 2015 election, running again and beating Aspin with 51.9 per cent of the vote. He was re-elected in 2019.

In addition to his role as MP, Rota is the Speaker for the House of Commons.

The riding’s population decreased to 88,813 from 90,996 between 2011 and 2016, according to the latest census.
