Canada election results: Markham—Thornhill

Global News is projecting Mary Ng has been re-elected as the Liberal MP for Markham-Thornhill.

This riding contains of parts of Markham and Thornhill in the sourthern part of York Region.

Markham—Thornhill is largely made up by the old riding of Markham—Unionville and the eastern portion of the old Thornhill riding. Its boundaries are Bayview Avenue on the west, Highway 407 on the north, Rouge River on the east, and Steeles Avenue East on the south.

Ng was re-elected to Markham—Thornhill in 2019 with 53.9 per cent of the vote. Ng replaced John McCallum as the riding’s Liberal MP during a 2017 byelection.

Ng was appointed minister of small business and export promotion in July 2018.

The riding is home to 99,078 residents and 72,499 registered voters.

Markham—Thornhill is known for its large Jewish and Italian communities. The area has seen a rise in immigration from China, India, and Pakistan in recent years, according to the latest census.
