Moncton man facing charges after barricading himself into residence

A 23-year-old man is facing several weapons charges following an incident in Moncton on Friday.

New Brunswick RCMP say they were called to an assault that occurred at a residence on Alma Street shortly before 2:30 p.m.

Police say when they arrived, a man barricaded himself inside an apartment.

“A perimeter was set up as a safety precaution and shortly before 11 p.m., police were able to gain entry into the apartment and arrested the man,” police said in a news release Saturday.

The victim, a woman in her 20s, suffered minor injuries, according to police.

Police say Jothan Snook was brought before a judge by way of a tele-remand on Saturday. He was been charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a firearm while probibited, using a firearm in a commission of an offence, careless use of a firearm, failing to comply with a judge’s undertaking and failing to comply with a probation order.

He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in Moncton provincial court on Tuesday.
