Calgary police are investigating a shooting at Forest Lawn that happened on Wednesday morning.
The shooting happened on the 1300 block of 38 Street S.E. just after 9 a.m., according to an emailed police statement.
Police said the Calgary Police Service tactical team helped contain a house while officers tried to de-escalate the situation.
A CPS spokesperson confirmed to 770 CHQR that investigators spent hours at the scene negotiating with individuals inside a residence. Police are continuing to hold the scene and are waiting to search the residence as part of their investigation.
One man has been taken into custody and the investigation is ongoing. The shooting is not believed to have been related to other violent incidents in Calgary, the spokesperson said.
“At this time investigators believe that this incident was the result of a dispute between two individuals inside the residence that escalated,” Amy Castonguay of the CPS media relations unit said.
Kang Gatkuoth lives in the basement suite of the house that is being raided. He said he didn’t know the people living upstairs and was surprised when the police raided his apartment.
“They told me to put my hands up and to walk out of the house… I woke up from my sleep,” Gatkuoth said.
“I have no idea what happened and I cooperated with (the police). I even gave them my keys and my ID.”
Cameo Ha, a resident of the area, said she was sleeping when she heard a loud noise outside. She went to check what was happening outside when her dog started barking, and that was when she saw the officers raiding the house.
“I’ve never heard or seen anything going on (at that house) so this is news to me,” Ha said.
“Unfortunately, this is normal for this neighbourhood… I don’t like leaving the house by myself because of what is going on in this neighbourhood.”
No injuries have been reported at this time.
