Toronto police are calling a shooting that left a man dead and two others injured Saturday night “gang-related.”

Police said they were called to the area of Markham and Kingston roads shortly after 9 p.m.

A man who was suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest died at the scene, while another man, who is in his 50s, was transported to hospital after a bullet grazed his head, officers said.

Paramedics were also treating a woman in her 40s who was shot in a finger.

On Sunday, police identified the man who died as 28-year-old Stephon Kelly of Toronto.

The two people who were injured, meanwhile, have since been released from hospital.

In an update Sunday afternoon, Det. Rob Choe said it’s believed two male suspects fired into a restaurant and the victims were struck inside.

It’s believed the shooting was “gang-related,” Choe said, adding, “It may have been Mr. Kelly that was targeted.”

Choe would not comment on whether or not that meant the victims are believed to have had any gang ties.

Investigators are searching for two male suspects who reportedly fled the area in a silver vehicle.
