2019 Canada election results: Courtenay-Alberni

Gord Johns of the NDP has been re-elected in the riding of Courtenay-Alberni, Global News projects.

Johns defeated Conservative Byron Horner, who is projected to finish second.

For the Conservatives, Courtenay-Alberni was viewed as one of their best opportunities to win a seat on Vancouver Island.

In 2015, Johns defeated sitting Conservative MP John Duncan in this newly-formed riding. Duncan was a rare Conservative politician who had found success on the island, winning his seat five separate times.

Geography

The riding borders the Pacific Ocean and covers a large part of central and western Vancouver Island, including Tofino, Port Alberni, Parksville and Courtenay.
