Over 250 kilometres of highways in Saskatchewan will be improved, the province and the federal government announced Monday.
Officials said the improvements on 15 different stretches of highways will keep drivers safe, improve traffic flow, and boost trade.
“Since 2008, our government has made highways and transportation infrastructure a priority through record investments and safety improvements,” Crown Investments Minister Joe Hargrave said in a statement.
“As a province that is land-locked, we continue to invest to support our economic competitiveness and to improve the quality of life and safety for our people.”
The federal minister of rural economic development, Bernadette Jordan, said the investment will create more fluid travel for traffic on the highways.
“This work will help local businesses compete, promote a higher quality of life for residents and support the long-term economic prosperity of this province,” Jordan said in a release.
Nearly half of the $81.7 million in funding announced for the improvements – $40.2 million – is coming from the federal government.
