Man in custody after barricaded apartment call in Dartmouth

Halifax Regional Police officers have taken a man into custody after responding to a barricaded person call in Dartmouth Friday evening.

The 30-year-old was brought in around 10:08 p.m., after a near five-hour standoff.

Police say they were called to an apartment on Highfield Park Drive just after 5:30 p.m., where a man inside was reported to have been “causing damage” while armed with a knife.

“When police went to speak to the male at the apartment he refused to open the door,” police said in a short news release Friday night.

Crisis negotiators and emergency first responders were called to the scene and asked the public to avoid the area.

The investigation is in its early stages, and police say they’ll release information as it becomes available.
