An animal shelter just west of Calgary is recovering from a robbery earlier this week.
Someone cut the lock on an outdoor shed at the Cochrane and Area Humane Society, stealing hundreds of dollars worth of bottles collected through their Containers for Critters fundraiser program.
Spokesperson Jaimie Anton said the theft will impact the shelter greatly.
“The Containers for Critters program is hugely important to us. All of those funds raised through the program go to our operations which supports everything from our vet clinic, medical care – as well as overall sheltering costs.”

The shelter cares for over 200 animals, and Anton said having someone steal from them during tough economic times is especially heartbreaking.
“Certainly we realize it’s tough times for everybody and I wonder if that plays a little bit of a part, but along with tough times for everybody, it’s tough times for charities … as well.”
Anyone with information is asked to call the Cochrane RCMP at 403-932-2213 or contact Crime Stoppers.
