Getting around the city is going to take longer than usual this weekend with a major highway and parts of the subway line due for maintenance work.
The Gardiner Expressway will shut down from Carlaw Avenue to Highway 427 beginning Friday at 11 p.m. for annual repairs. It will remain closed all weekend, reopening on Monday at 5 a.m.

Crews will also be demolishing the Dowling Avenue bridge during this time. The city website warns residents the work will be “loud and disruptive” May 14 and 15.

A temporary bridge will be in place by June 5 to accommodate the charity event, Ride for Heart. The completed bridge is expected to be ready for pedestrians and cyclists by July 2.
TTC subway closures
Parts of Line 2 (Bloor-Danforth) subway will also be closed temporarily for construction on Sunday morning.
Service between St George and Pape stations will open at 10 a.m., instead of 8 a.m., while crews work on track maintenance and upgrades on the Prince Edward Viaduct.
Shuttle buses will be available in the meantime until regular service is restored.
