Residents in evacuated communities in Westlock County allowed to return home: Alberta RCMP

RCMP are allowing people whose residences were evacuated due to a wildfire to return home.

A wildfire broke out Sunday near Westlock County Alta., northwest of Edmonton, and residents were forced to leave their homes shortly after.

Police said the evacuated area stretched between Township Road 592 and 594, and Range Road 15 and 24.

Anyone living two miles north of those townships were told to be ready to leave on 15 minutes’ notice, RCMP added.

The fire started around 11:30 a.m. Sunday near Highway 654 and Range Road 14, and 30 fire members from Pickardville, Busby, Clyde and Barrhead County fire stairs are now on scene, said a spokesperson for Westlock County.

Officials are requesting that anyone who does not need to be in the area stay out while crews work to hold the fire.

Police said no towns are currently in danger, but several rural residences are in the fire zone. The fire is now being held by fire crews.
