Autopsy inconclusive after man found dead near Commonwealth Stadium

Further testing is needed to determine how a man died in central Edmonton last week.

Police blocked off an area near Commonwealth Stadium the morning of Thursday, Aug. 12, as detectives investigated a suspicious death.

Officers were called to the area of 92 Street and Stadium Road at around 7:30 a.m. after a report of an injured man.

Once police arrived, the man had already died, police said in an update Thursday afternoon.

An autopsy on the 57-year-old was scheduled for Aug. 18. In an update on Aug. 19, police said the cause and manner of death are pending further testing.

“As there is a possibility the death may be non-criminal, the male’s name will not be released at this time,” a news release said.

Anyone who was in the area, or has dash cam or security footage, between 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11 and 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 12 is asked to contact police.
