A 33-year-old London man has been charged in connection with a horrifying scene Saturday in southeast London where police allege a man was intentionally set on fire during an altercation.
It happened around 5:15 p.m. in the area of Thompson Road and Jacqueline Street. Police responded to the area for a reported altercation, and upon arrival say they located a man on fire.
Police said they managed to extinguish the fire.
The victim, a 66-year-old man, was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries where they remain as of Monday, officials said in a statement.
The disturbing incident was captured on video by the rider of a nearby London Transit bus and posted online to Facebook. The video has since been taken down.
The post that accompanied the video, which has also been removed, alleged the man had something poured on him before the fire began. London police would not confirm the detail when asked late Saturday.
Kristifor Jiva Radovanovici was arrested in connection with the incident. Police say a knife and ammunition were seized.
Radovanovici has been charged with attempt to commit murder, two counts of breach of probation and six counts of possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order.
The accused is set to appear in court Monday.
In November 2020, the accused in this matter was arrested and charged after reportedly approaching a police officer with a knife.
Police say the suspect reportedly went up to an officer in a police car with a knife in hand and demanded the officer to leave the area.
The suspect was arrested and police found $1,200 worth of fentanyl, $1,400 worth of crystal meth and financial documents belonging to another person.
There is no threat to public safety in regards to the fire assault incident, police say.
