Global News is projecting Conservative incumbent John Brassard getting re-elected in Barrie–Innisfil.
The riding of Barrie—Innisfil consists of part of the town of Innisfil and part of the City of Barrie. It borders the ridings of Barrie—Springwater—Oro-Medonte, York—Simcoe and Simcoe—Grey.
Fifteen per cent of the riding’s population consists of immigrants, while three per cent identify as Aboriginal. Italian, Spanish and Portuguese are the most common non-official languages in the region.
More than half the people in this riding have some form of post-secondary education.
Barrie—Innisfil voters put incumbent Conservative MP John Brassard, who was first elected in 2015, back in the seat in the 2019 federal election. The former Barrie councilman and firefighter beat Liberal candidate Lisa-Marie Wilson by 7,886 votes. The NDP and Green Party candidates came in third and fourth place.
Brossard previously served a nine-year, three-term tenure on Barrie’s city council.
