A 34-year-old man is facing a second-degree murder charge in Saskatoon’s first homicide of 2021.
Kevin Michael Hollman appeared briefly in court Thursday morning via video while wearing a white jumpsuit.
He was taken into custody following a disturbance Wednesday morning at a home in the 200 block of Wakaw Place.
Debbie Hollman, 60, was found dead inside the home. Gary Hollman, 65, was taken to hospital with what police said were serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
Kevin Hollman is a son of the couple.
Police have not said how Debbie Hollman died, but court records state Gary Hollman was stabbed. On Wednesday, officer laid several evidence markers in the roadway, noting items like a knife and a pair of glasses.
Shannon Allen, a neighbour, described the couple as “really active” and “an awesome part” of the Lakeview area cul-de-sac.
“It’s been tough,” she said.
Allen said she led neighbours in a prayer Wednesday as they lit candles “for Debbie and for Gary in his healing and for the rest of the family and community.”
Saskatoon police said they had to use a stun gun on Kevin Hollman when they encountered him outside the home.
Kevin Hollman’s online activity includes social media posts and uploaded videos to a website that reference Donald Trump, aliens and debunked QAnon conspiracy theories.
Also charged with attempted murder, Kevin Hollman told the judge he understands his charges. He’s scheduled to make his next court appearance on Jan. 14.
