One shot in Osborne restaurant Sunday morning

Winnipeg police are investigating a shooting early Sunday morning at the Subway restaurant at River Avenue and Osborne Street.

Police were called to the restaurant for a report of a man who had been shot around 2:05 a.m.

Crews found a 20-year-old man injured.

He was taken to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable condition.

An employee at the restaurant was also struck but police say they were not injured.

Bryn Ormiston, an employee at a nearby nightclub, left work around 2:30 a.m. and saw a chaotic scene of police cruisers, emergency responders and onlookers surrounding the restaurant.

“One person was running toward the [restaurant] and I asked him — he said his buddy was shot,” Ormiston said. “There were people just distraught, falling over, police trying to hold them.”

The restaurant “after bar hours is always really busy, there’s lots of people around, but we’ve never seen any police action like that before.”

Police haven’t released any information on who they are looking for in connection with the shooting.
