OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said “multiple crashes” occurred all around the same time between Highway 88 and Innisfil Beach Road leading to a full closure.

“We had northbound and southbound lanes closed due to multiple collisions, a 20-car pileup … single-vehicle collisions, transport trucks involved,” he said.

Approximately 50 vehicles and six trucks were in crashes.

No injuries have been reported.

Schmidt said snow was falling in the area at the time of the crashes, but conditions have since improved.

“This system came through, obviously made driving treacherous. Visibility was reduced and the roads were very slippery,” he said, adding that motorists need to slow down when severe weather hits.
