Peel Regional Police say it has been determined that a woman and a man who were found dead in a Brampton home died in a murder-suicide.
Police said emergency crews were called to a home on Bighorn Crescent, north of Torbram Road and Bovaird Drive East, before 2:10 p.m. on Monday.
In an update Tuesday morning, Insp. Marty Ottaway said officers first found a 35-year-old man dead inside. After searching the home further, officers then found a 27-year-old woman deceased as well.
“It has been determined that she was the victim of a homicide,” Ottaway said.
“I can advise that the investigation to date has determined that the male deceased in this matter had murdered the female victim and then took his own life.”
Ottaway went on to say that the man, identified as Navdeep Singh, and the woman, identified as Sharanjeet Kaur, had an intimate relationship in the past.
He said Kaur was reported missing to Toronto police by a roommate Monday morning after she failed to return home.
A news release was sent out saying police were concerned for her safety. Global News has learned investigators were also told her ex-boyfriend had been stalking her.
Neighbours who live near Singh’s home said Toronto police showed up Monday morning looking for the missing woman.
“There is no previous history with either Toronto police or Peel Regional Police in regards to any domestic issues and neither party is known to police,” Ottaway said.
Jeff Howard, the victim’s boss from Evoke Solutions — a small graphic design where Kaur worked as a web developer, said news of Kaur’s death has been “really challenging” for his team.
“She’s been with us a number of years… definitely a bright light in the office. Just an incredibly beautiful and smart person and a real joy to be around,” he told Global News.
“We all keep waiting for her to walk through the door again.”
Police said Peel Region has had 27 homicides so far in 2019, and 13 of those have been domestic-related.
