Building at UNB’s Fredericton campus evacuated after small explosion

Emergency crews responded to the scene of a small explosion at the University of New Brunswick’s Fredericton campus on Thursday afternoon.

Fredericton Fire told Global News they responded to Head Hall shortly before 4 p.m.

“There was a small spill in a cabinet that contained several other chemicals so we’re just trying to determine through our team, our hazmat technicians and UNB chemists what our best course of action is to determine what the course of action is,” said deputy fire chief Steven Fraser.

Officials say four students were working in an acid lab at the time of the explosion.

Two were examined by paramedics but were not taken to hospital.

All evening classes were cancelled as part of the investigation.
