The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has identified the man shot to death in Chilliwack, B.C., on Sunday morning.
Police say 33-year-old James Vidal was gunned down in the 45700-block of Alexander Avenue in Chilliwack at 6:30 a.m. He died at the scene.
Police say information gathered so far suggests Vidal was known to police, and his murder is not believed to be a random act.
“We are fortunate that no one else was hurt as a result of this careless act,” IHIT Cpl. Frank Jang said.
This was the third shooting Chilliwack has seen in two weeks.

Chilliwack Mayor Ken Popove called the recent spike in violence “unnerving,” and said his council has approved the hiring of six more RCMP officers to help address the issue.
“As well as that we’ve hired a couple more information officers that take a load off the serving police officers, and we’ve also had a couple of part-time bylaw guys, and now they’re full-time and they work through the weekend as well, so more boots and eyes on the street,” said Popove.
On Feb. 26, 42-year-old Christine Denham of Chilliwack was shot at her home in the 9400-block of Victor Street. She died of her injuries in hospital on March 1.
On Monday, IHIT said 41-year-old Shane Travis Hughes was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in connection with Denham’s death.
The night before Denham died, a man was sent to hospital after a shooting behind the fire hall on South Sumas Road. That shooting happened while a sporting event was taking place at nearby Sardis Secondary School.
