Kittens rescued from burning Maple Ridge home

Fire started in basement of a house in Maple Ridge and quickly spread to the attic, four res got out but firefighters had to rescue two one-month old kittens – Jul 12, 2018

A couple of kittens were rescued from a burning home in Maple Ridge Thursday morning.

A two-storey bungalow-style home was destroyed in the fire, according to fire chief Howard Exner, leaving multiple people displaced.

Exner said the family is being offered temporary housing by emergency social services, adding that no one was injured.

He said firefighters also saved at least two kittens who seemed to be doing okay, and that the SPCA was asked to attend the scene.

A total of 22 members of the fire department responded to the scene in the 20400 block of 123rd Avenue. They were called shortly after 10 a.m.

Crews are expected to be there most of Thursday as the investigation into the cause of the fire continues.
