Toronto police say one man is dead and another is in life-threatening condition after a double-stabbing at a bar overnight Saturday.
Officers said they were called to the Working Dog Saloon on St. Clair Avenue East around 2:05 a.m. with reports of a stabbing.
They said the two men had been found with stab wounds outside the bar and were transported to hospital.
Toronto paramedics confirmed they transported two men, one man in his 20s and another in his 30s, to hospital.
One of the victims succumbed to his injuries in hospital. The other man suffered life-threatening injuries but there has not been an update on his condition.
Later police told Global News the deceased victim is a 29-year-old man who lives in the area.
Jinette Poolar, a local resident, said she saw the incident take place from across the street.
“I heard a man screaming. I look out my window and he’s grabbing his head running back and forth to the two bodies,” she said.
Area councillor Gary Crawford was shocked by the events and said normally the pub is a place for residents to unwind.
“This is a quiet community. This is a local pub. People come here after a long week to have a bite to eat and have a few drinks and it’s a family environment,” he said.
However, another resident, Debbie Chiniforoush, said the pub hasn’t been as family oriented as it once was.
“People used to meet there and have a chit chat but it’s changed over the last little while,” she said.
“I think the clientele has changed over the last few years.”
Police have not released suspect information. Homicide has taken over the investigation.
