Prince Philip has been admitted to a London hospital to have surgery on his hip.
The Duke of Edinburgh, 96, will undergo the planned operation at King Edward VII Hospital on Wednesday.
Buckingham Palace confirmed the news Tuesday, releasing the following statement: “His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in London this afternoon, for planned surgery on his hip which will take place tomorrow. Further updates will be issued when appropriate.”

Philip’s surgery comes after he was forced to miss out on numerous events over the Easter period due to problems with his hip.
He couldn’t attend the Queen’s annual church service at St. George’s Chapel, where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will wed on May 19, with a courtier explaining: “The Duke of Edinburgh has an issue with his hip which is affecting his mobility.”

“There’s no cause for alarm but frankly he’s a proud man and doesn’t want to appear crocked in public. He’s not called the Iron Duke for nothing,” they added, according to the Daily Express.
Philip retired from his official royal duties last August, however, a spokesperson confirmed that he would still be attending events from “time to time.”
