Four people, including two teens, from Maskwacis, Alta. are facing a total of 33 charges after a break and enter spree over the weekend.
Wetaskiwin RCMP were first called to the town’s legion at 3:07 a.m. on Saturday after a report that someone broke a window and stole several bottles of liquor before fleeing. Then, at 4:47 a.m., police were called to an alarm at Master Cell Tech. Investigators said a window had been broken, but no one had entered the building. The suspects were gone before police arrived.
At 4:57 a.m., a report came in to police that a break and enter had occurred at a home. The residents told police they were bear sprayed and could hear someone in their home. Police arrived after the group had allegedly fled in the homeowners’ SUV. The homeowners told police the suspects had their faces covered while they were in the home.
At 9:30 a.m., police received a report that a black SUV with smashed out windows was driving at a “high rate of speed.” Finally, at 10:26 p.m., police were called to the Wetaskiwin McDonald’s after a man was bear sprayed and managed to flag down the city peace officer. He told police the people who bear sprayed him were driving a black SUV and had stolen his cell phone.
Police found the SUV later behind Rigger’s Bar and were able to arrest all four suspects at a nearby residence.
A 16-year-old boy is facing 10 charges including assault causing bodily harm and two counts of robbery.

A 14-year-old boy is facing 13 charges including two counts of robbery, assault causing bodily harm and four counts related to breaking existing court conditions.
Donovan Lightning, 25, is facing six charges including robbery, mischief under $5,000 and two traffic safety offences.
Shalien Ward, 23, is facing four charges including robbery and possession of property obtained by crime.
Police said all four people were known to them.
The two teens remain in custody and are expected to be in court on April 4. Lightning is also in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on March 29. Ward was released on her own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in court on March 29.
