A Saskatoon-based roofing company has been fined for failing to ensure proper safety procedures were in place at a worksite.

An occupational health and safety officer spotted workers with Little Rainbow Roofing & Exteriors not using fall protection or personal protective equipment at a worksite outside of Saskatoon on June 23, 2016.

The company was charged with violating three of Saskatchewan’s occupational health and safety regulations.

Little Rainbow Roofing & Exteriors was found guilty on Nov. 14 in Saskatoon provincial court for failing to ensure a portable ladder was secured against being moved accidently while in use.

The company was fined $1,400.

Two other charges were stayed.

WorkSafe Saskatchewan said falls are the cause of many injuries in the construction industry and workers should always be outfitted with the appropriate safety gear for the work they are doing.

They added that equipment should be inspected daily and any worn or damaged equipment replaced.
