A Meadow Lake, Sask., company has been fined $84,000 in a workplace death.
Cowan Bros. Transport was charged under Saskatchewan’s Occupational Health and Safety Act after the death of a worker on July 27, 2015 at a workplace near Waskesiu.
A worker died from injuries after he was run over by a flatbed truck being pushed by a bulldozer.
RCMP said the truck was hauling logs on Highway 2 when it became stuck in mud.
The driver asked for help from another employee to assist removing the semi from the mud.
While efforts to remove the semi were underway, the driver became pinned under the cab of the semi. He was declared dead at the scene.
Cowan Bros. Transport pleaded guilty for failing to ensure that activities of workers do not negatively affect the health, safety or welfare of the employer or other workers.
The company was fined $60,000 along with a $24,000 surcharge on Sept. 21 in Montreal Lake provincial court.
