Corus goes coast-to-coast

Dawna Friesen enjoys visiting Newfoundland with her family. Dawna Friesen

When we think about travel, we often think of visiting places outside of Canada. This month, our Radio & TV hosts share some of their favourite spots right here at home.

Dawna Friesen enjoys visiting Newfoundland

Newfoundland is a particular favourite. I went there for the first time 15 years ago and I just felt at home. It’s rugged; people are so friendly and there’s great hiking. Newfoundland is so peaceful and homey—like a warm, comfy blanket.

Webster’s Falls is one of Jeff McArthur’s favourite spots

One of my favourite spots in Canada is the little known Webster’s Falls. Located not far from where I grew up, near Dundas, Ontario, the falls are a 22-metre plunge in what is known as The Spencer Gorge. I especially like it at this time of year; it features some of the best fall colours found anywhere.

Chris Gailus explores the Vancouver waterfront

Nailing down a favourite place in Canada is so difficult because it’s so vast. Having said that, home is where the heart is! There is nothing I enjoy more than getting in a boat with my family and exploring the Vancouver waterfront and beyond.  There are a number of good boat rental places around so sometimes we’ll do a half-day rental and head up to Deep Cove, a quaint little spot in Indian Arm. Stopping for lunch at Arm’s Reach Cafe is a must! Every time we have guests visiting we do it and they are always blown away by the view of the city from the water and how quickly you can cruise up into the wilderness; it’s definitely part of why we love living here!

Winnipeg is home for Shadoe Davis

I’d probably get skewered by family, friends and co-workers if I don’t say my favourite place in Canada is Winnipeg. It is, after all, my hometown. Seriously, though, I was born and raised here in the ‘Peg and have moved away several times for jobs in other Canadian cities, but I always wind up coming back. There’s just something about the people here; they are warm and inviting. It’s the kind of place where  if your car gets stuck in the snow, you’ll have six people there to push you out within 30 seconds. The community spirit here is incredible.

My second favourite place is Kingston, Ontario. It’s incredibly historic and warm. Plus, it’s Canada’s first capital and I’m a history buff. An honourable mention also goes to BC, simply because of how gorgeous it is.

As long as there is a beach Jill Chappell is happy

My favourite place in Canada is the beach – it doesn’t matter where or when. Luckily, living in Canada’s Ocean Playground, I have the pick of the litter. Here’s a shot I took while hiking to one of Nova Scotia’s most beautifully pristine beaches in Kejimkujik Seaside National Park.
