TORONTO – An animal centre in San Diego held a fundraising event Saturday that had dogs barking ‘Cowabunga!’
The Helen Woodward Animal Center, along with the SoCal Surf Dogs Club, held surfing and stand-up paddleboarding lessons for adventurous pups and their owners.
The basic lesson helped introduce dogs to the ocean and beach, while the advanced lesson got the dogs up on a board and hitting the waves.

“Dogs are part of our families… they just want to be with their family all the time. So if you’re out there surfing, if you’re enjoying the beach, then they just want to be out there with you,” said Mindy Wright, special events assistant at the Helen Woodward Animal Center.
Lessons run throughout the summer at a cost of US$45 for the first session with a $10 discount for any additional sessions.
All proceeds go towards helping the Helen Woodward Animal Center’s adoptable pets and community programs.
