Prior to joining the Eskimos, the 28-year-old played two seasons with the Saskatchewan Roughriders at cornerback, appearing in the Grey Cup game each year.

Alexander was originally drafted in the third round of the 2007 CFL Draft by the Montreal Alouettes. He grew up in Winnipeg, playing high school football at St. Paul’s before attending college at the University of North Dakota. Alexander has also spent some time with the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks.
