Fatal collision shuts down part of St. Albert Trail in northwest Edmonton

A fatal crash shut down a stretch of a busy northwest Edmonton road Tuesday evening.

The crash happened around 4 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of St. Albert Trail/Mark Messier Trail at Campbell Road/156 Street.

Edmonton Police said a Kia Sportage made a left turn onto Mark Messier Trail when it was t-boned by a semi truck that was going through the intersection on a green light.

The driver of the Sportage, a 65-year-old woman, was taken to hospital where she died of her injuries. Police added she wasn’t wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.

The 36-year-old man driving the semi was not injured.

No charges are pending at this time.  The intersection was re-opened late Tuesday evening.
