One person is dead after a serious collision on Highway 2A near High River, Alta.

According to an RCMP news release, the collision involved a semi-truck and a passenger vehicle.

The crash happened at around 7:30 a.m., according to EMS.

Highway 2A was not passable between 434 Avenue east and Highway 543 east, Mounties said. The collision happened at the Cargill entrance.

The highway reopened at around 2 p.m.

Heavy fog may have been a factor in this collision, police said.

An EMS spokesperson confirmed there were two occupants in the passenger vehicle. A man was flown to Foothills Medical Centre in critical condition.

Another man from that vehicle, a 52-year-old Calgary resident, was declared dead at the scene.

The semi-truck driver was not injured, RCMP said.
