Male dead, female seriously injured after overnight shooting in Oakville: police

A male victim is dead a female is injured after a shooting in Oakville overnight, police say.

Halton Regional Police (HRPS) say the incident took place outside of a residence on Belt Lane at Littlefield Road, near Bronte Road and the Queen Elizabeth Way, at around 1 a.m. Friday.

Cst. Steve Elms told reporters Friday afternoon first responders located two victims, one male and one female, who had been shot.

“It appears that the shooting occurred outside of a residence on Belt Lane. The suspects then appeared to chase the male victim … to an area here where he was fatally shot.”

The male died at the scene and the female victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries, Elms said.

Investigators say multiple shots were fired into at least two residences, one with occupants. There were no occupants in the other home.

“Obviously a careless use of firearms for the people that live in the area,” said Elms.

“It’s just scary for them, tragic for the parties involved here.”

HRPS are looking for a pair of suspects and a light coloured SUV seen fleeing the area.

Elms said detectives are still seeking information to profile the unknown suspects.

“We do believe this is a targeted shooting … obviously, they have a firearm and are using it as they see fit,” said Elms.

“So at this point, we’re looking to identify the suspects and for the public’s assistance in identifying them and the vehicle.”
