Chilliwack, B.C., RCMP confirm officers are investigating an assault on someone fishing on the Vedder River on Sunday.
The attack was caught on video and provided to Global News.
The video shows a boat speeding up to a group of people fishing on the shore.
Three men then jump off the boat and attack one of the anglers, beating the person viciously.
Some witnesses told Global News the anglers had earlier yelled at the boat to slow down.
Sgt. Mike Sargent with the Upper Fraser Valley RCMP said the incident took place at about 3:30 p.m. around the Lumsden Road area of the river.
He said they were made aware of the video almost directly after the incident.
Sargent said the people on the boat could be facing charges of assault or assault causing bodily harm but that has not been determined at this time.
There is no word on the condition of the victim.
Officers said some witnesses have come forward but they are looking to speak to more witnesses and obtain more video.
“In the last few days we have received tips and information from the public regarding that video as to who may be involved,” Sargent said. “But we are also asking if people are out there that haven’t come forward or have video outside of what has been submitted, we want them to come forward as well.”
He added a video can only show part of the story and they are looking to gather more information about what led up to this incident.
Sargent said they want everyone to be able to enjoy these spaces and the outdoors responsibly.
