In a tweet Thursday afternoon, Toronto police said officers received reports that someone had been shot outside the Sherbourne subway station.

Speaking at a press conference Toronto police Insp. Richard Harris, said officers received the call just after 5 p.m.

He said officers located the victim who had suffered “multiple gunshot wounds.”

Harris said before police arrived on scene, an off-duty paramedic who happened to be in the area had delivered first aid.

The victim was then transported to hospital in critical condition, where he was pronounced deceased.

According to Harris, officers are now searching for a suspect described as a man standing five-feet-six-inches or five-feet-seven-inches in height, with a medium build.

He was last seen running away from the scene heading southbound on Glen Road.

Harris said he was seen carrying a handgun.

According to Harris, an “extensive” canvas of the area is now underway, and officers are “actively looking” for the suspect.

Officers are also going through Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) security footage.

Harris said TTC service has resumed.

The investigation, Harris said, is now in the hands of the force’s homicide unit.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
