Around 4:30 p.m., Fort McMurray RCMP responded to reports of a suspicious package in the arrivals terminal.

Out of precaution, The airport was closed until 12:05 a.m. on Sunday.

All scheduled passenger flights were suspended.

The RCMP explosive disposal unit (EDU) travelled to the airport from Edmonton. It determined the package was not an explosive or dangerous, and no longer suspicious in nature.

However, the RCMP are continuing their investigation under the Canadian Aviation Security Regulations and Aeronautics Act.

In a Sunday morning news release, police said details of the incident and the identity of anyone involved will not be released while the investigation is ongoing.
