Waterloo Regional Police say emergency services were called to the brewery on Sunday night at around 9 p.m., for an industrial incident.

They say five employees were sprayed with a liquid which left them with various levels of burns.

Police say a 49-year-old Kitchener woman was transported to an out of region hospital while a 38-year-old Kitchener man was taken to an area hospital with both having suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The other three victims were treated at the scene by paramedics.

The Ministry of Labour says an investigator has been assigned and a probe into the incident is underway.

Waterloo Brewing president George Croft told Global News that one of the employees was released from the hospital on Monday afternoon.

“But unfortunately one of the employees is still in the hospital,” he said.

Croft said that the brewery is conducting its own investigation and is cooperating with the ministry’s investigator.

“Our approach with the ministry of labour is full cooperation,” he said Tuesday morning.

“We are working with them to ensure that we have the ability to uncover all of the facts involved with the situation and so we can put in place any corrective action that is required.

“The health and safety of employees for us is paramount. Obviously, when anybody gets hurt, it’s a really bad and sad day here.”
