The body of a 47-year-old Calgary man who went missing at Chestermere Lake on Monday has been recovered, the RCMP said Tuesday night.
“At 8:41 p.m., Chestermere RCMP, with the help of the Central Alberta Rescue Diving Society, recovered the body of the missing person in Chestermere Lake,” police said in a news release, adding that the body will be taken to the medical examiner’s office and that the family has been notified.
“Victim services are engaged,” the RCMP said.
While the man went missing in what police said was a possible drowning, they did not confirm the cause of death on Tuesday.
Mounties were called to the lake’s Anniversary Beach at around 3 p.m. on Monday for reports of a possible drowning after two men on a paddleboard appeared to fall into the water.

RCMP said nearby swimmers were able to rescue one of the men but the other did not resurface after going underwater.
Paramedics took the survivor, a 24-year-old man, to hospital as a precaution.
“It was fortunate that beachgoers were observant,” Staff Sgt. Mark Wielgosz told Global News. “They noticed that these two men were in trouble.”
Wielgosz said recovery efforts on Monday evening were hampered by dark and murky water in parts of the lake.
“It’s a very stressful situation for the family,” he said.
RCMP said the men were not related. They have not released the identity of the victim.
Neither of the men were wearing lifejackets, according to RCMP.
The city of Chestermere is located about five kilometres east of Calgary.
