Canada election results: South Okanagan–West Kootenay

Global News is projecting that NDP candidate Richard Cannings has been re-elected in the riding of South Okanagan-West Kootenay.

With 267 of 289 polls reporting as of 11:15 p.m., Cannings had a small lead over Conservative candidate Helena Konanz.

Cannings was leading with 40.9 per cent of the ballot, with Konanz next at 35.2 per cent.

Ken Robertson of the Liberals was third at 12.3 per cent.

The riding covers Castlegar, Slocan, Nakusp, Penticton, Oliver and Osoyoos. It also borders the United States.

Cannings was first elected in 2015 with 37.3 per cent of the vote. He ran again in 2019 and won in a tight race against Konanz, with just 796 more votes.

The Liberals’ Connie Denesiuk was third.
