Peel Regional Police Const. Bancroft Wright said emergency crews were called to Brampton Funeral Home and Cemetary at the corner of Chinguacousy Road and Bovaird Drive West just before 3:45 p.m. with reports multiple shots were fired.

“The gist of the call was that there were upwards of six or seven individuals who were shooting at each other,” he said.

Wright said a male victim was found nearby and taken by Peel Paramedics to a trauma centre in life-threatening condition

A second person was dropped off at a fire station on Hurontario Road near Steeles Avenue West, approximately nine kilometres away. The victim was taken by paramedics to a local hospital in life-threatening condition.

A third male victim arrived at a local hospital at around 4:20 p.m. with gunshot wounds. Wright said it’s believed he is in stable condition.

“We believe that they’re all associated to this main scene,” he said.

Wright said investigators were trying to determine the circumstances leading up to the exchange of gunfire.

Dustin Wright, a spokesperson for the cemetery’s parent company Arbor Memorial Inc., told Global News in a statement there weren’t any funeral services taking place at the time of the shooting.

“We are extremely concerned by this incident as our cemetery is a peaceful place for families to visit loved ones and is a welcoming space for the surrounding community,” he wrote Monday night.

“Our thoughts are with the victims and their families and wish them a speedy recovery.”
