A 52-year-old man has been found dead after a fire in a midtown Toronto apartment building laundry room and police say they’re looking to identify a man as part of a homicide investigation.
Firefighters were called to Balliol Street, near Yonge Street and Davisville Avenue, shortly after 2 a.m. on Thursdayfollowing a call from an alarm company.
When crews arrived, they found smoke coming from the lobby area and the laundry room.
Firefighters discovered a man, without vital signs, in the laundry room of the building and attempted life-saving measures.
Police said the victim, who was later identified as Peter Elie, had obvious signs of trauma.
Late Thursday morning, police released a photo of a person of interest described by investigators as last seen wearing a dark jacket with red and black checkered pajamas.
Police warn to not approach the man and call 911. Anyone with information is asked to call officers at 416-808-7400 or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously.
